My Gift part 1

                                 My Gift

I wish it was the same as when we had mom. Or at least I knew where mom was. Things were never the same as when we had her. My mom ,who is from a rich family, gave up everything just for my dad. But I still wonder why she left dad, and me. All I have left of her is the old trunk in the basement. It has all kinds of junk, mom always says that junks are what helps you when you need them; they are treasure to one’s eyes.
I heard from the my grandmother, who died before mom disappeared, mom fell in love with dad because she liked the curiosity he had towards helping and caring for the family. .
“Masha,” yelled dad, interrupting my flow of thoughts. “Come eat breakfast, your going to be late for school,”
“Coming dad,” I replied.
I hate school. It is so boring. The sweaty hand of teacher’s touching your back for encouragement is not very helpful. My head always gets hot with the pressure the teachers put on you.
I sat to eat breakfast at the 3 chaired table. The floral design of the table always reminded me of mom. The table was unusually silent. I could only hear the fast clashing sound of dad’s spoon hitting the bowl.
Then suddenly dad broke into the silence, “ I need to tell you something” he said with a whispering voice.
“What is it dad?,” I asked as my voice trembled with fear. “Is everything ok?,”
“I don’t know how to say this to you,” he started. “The last few weeks has been kind of hard for me,”
I cleaned my fist. What was dad trying to say? He looked fine to me for the last few weeks. Was this about mom?
“ The faith of our lives…,”
“ Groomo,” Pablo interrupted. Pablo is dad’s friend. He is a scientist too. “Did you forget? We got to go,”
“ Dad, where are you going,” I asked. “You didn’t finish your sentence,”
“ Oh, I forgot,” dad said. “Masha, I got to go. Take care of the house and yourself. Resist the urge to go to the basement and look at the trunk. I’ll be home as soon as possible,”
“Dad what is it,” I said, trying not to stumble “Where are you going?”. My hands started to tumble. My head was getting warmer and warmer. I started to shake.
“Ask no questions, just listen to me.” He commanded. Then he left with Pablo.
My head started to spin. The next thing I knew I was on my bed with Maya next to me.
“Are you ok?,” she said with worry. “When I came to pick you up to go to school, the door was open and you were on the floor,”
“I don’t know,” I said. “ My dad was staring to talk about ‘the faith of our lives’. Then suddenly, Pablo came and dad went with him. Then I think I fainted,” I didn’t know what was happening; like I shouldn’t know.
“Oh, that explains it,” she started.

Will continue in the next part…
